Of all the arts, woodcarving is the one that most vividly demonstrates man's ability to imprint and transform the world. All the carver needs is a simple material like wood and a few tools to create objects and furnishings that captivate with their beauty.

The decorative motifs chosen reveal what it means to be human: what people admire, what they aspire to.
